Re:Zero Season 3 release date prediction: Is 2024 or 2025 possible?
As of the last update, White Fox, Kadokawa, or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Re:Zero Season 3 release date. However, the production of a third season was announced on March 25, 2023.
Once the news is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when the Re:Zero Season 3 premiere date will occur in the future.
Notably, Re:Zero Episode 50 did not make an announcement. Similar to how the first season ended on a happy note rather than the “Who’s Rem?” cliffhanger, the second season’s finale cut out foreshadowing of Arc 5 (see the comparison section below for more details).
The critical issue is that anime productions are scheduled years in advance and studios will be booked up solid for years. Sometimes sequel seasons are planned out ahead if the source material is popular enough, but in the case of the Re:Zero anime series the second season was greenlit for pre-production back in 2017 but actual animation production didn’t actually start until years later.
Of course, now we know that even the producer of the series wasn’t expecting the first season to be an overwhelming success for Japanese publisher Kadokawa.
Even in a time where streaming revenue is more important than the Blu-Ray/DVD volumes, the disc sales were through the roof in 2016, with the first volume selling 11,997 copies in the first week. As a comparison, Re:Zero Season 1 sold almost 5 times as many discs as the first season of the My Hero Academia anime (see our article on the My Hero Academia Season 5 release date), which came out in the same time frame.
The sales figures for Re:Zero Season 2 were not nearly as impressive, but they were still good enough to justify a third season. In November 2020, it was reported the second season’s first Blu-Ray/DVD volume sold 5,387 copies.
Most importantly from the perspective of Kadokawa’s Media Factory subsidiary, they also saw a huge increase in light novel and manga sales. Therefore, it’s very likely that Kadokawa would desire that Re:Zero Season 3 be planned out in advance with White Fox’s schedule.
The only White Fox production in 2021 was Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2. The Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth anime came out in Summer 2022. Otherwise, the Goblin Slayer Season 2 release date is confirmed to be in 2023, but it’s also been confirmed that the animation studio will be changing from White Fox to Studio LIDENFILMS. But that’s good news since it frees up White Fox so they can focus on other projects like Re:Zero Season 3.
Given that the Kadokawa producer was already voluntarily talking about the third season back in 2020, it’s possible they could aim for either 2024 or 2025. Let’s just be glad that a Re:Zero Season 3 production announcement took place in 2023!

The story seems to have started and it can go in multiple directions. The most plausible one is the Royal Selection.
Yup, if you guys don’t remember, Emilia is yet to win in the Royal Selection to fulfil her promise to Roswaal.
The next season is most likely going to be the journey of our girl trying her best to outperform every other contender in the Royal Selection.
With Subaru and the group by her side, she is bound to become a better person.
Moreover, stuff like Rem and Subaru’s relationship as well as Subaru and Beatrice’s relationships need more exploration.
The characters have made it out of the first predicament in one piece. But what does this new world have in store for them shortly?
Not to mention, the light novel is still going on which means that we have a lot of stories that can be covered in the anime.
The possibilities seem to have no limit but at the moment, they are most likely to go in the direction of Royal Selection.
So for now, the expected plot of Re: Zero is Emilia and Royal Selection.

What is the season 3 plot of Re: Zero?
White Fox has much of “Re: Zero” left to adapt because Season 2 of “Re: Zero” only covered “Arc 4” of the original light novels (via Re: Zero Wiki). Sanctuary’s residents are being held hostage by a strange magical barrier that Subaru and Emilia are attempting to breakthrough.
It begins in “Arc 5,” where the anime’s plot is scheduled to begin, with Subaru and his comrades battling the Witch Cultists who have taken over Watergate City’s Royal Election Camps. At this point, it isn’t certain if the anime will only cover this arc or go on to cover the rest of the series.

Season 3 will, of course, feature many of the plot aspects that make “Re: Zero” unique. It’s safe to say, therefore, that “Re: Zero” will carry on the lengthy history of cruelty and psychological torment established by Subaru’s Return By Death ability. Now let’s discuss the source material of Re: Zero. As you guys know, Re: Zero is based on a light novel written by Nagatsuki Tappei and illustrated by Ootsuka Shinichirou.
These two amazing artists ended up creating our favourite series and we gotta respect it!
This fantasy drama series started airing on January 23, 2014, and is still under publication.
In other words, the series hasn’t had a finite conclusion to its story. For us, this is great news because more narrative content means more seasons.

Out of which, around the first 9 volumes were covered in the first season, and volumes 9-15 were covered in the second season.
Now we are going to do some simple maths here. The first season adapted 9 volumes of the light novel and the second one adapted 5.
So if we average it out, we can say that Re: Zero requires around 7 volumes for every season.
It wouldn’t be a mistake to say so. Keeping that in mind, does Re: Zero have enough source material to adapt?
Well, the answer is YES! For those of you who don’t know, if the source material is done or doesn’t have enough volumes/chapters out yet, the series can’t adapt it in the first place.
There has to be a story to create an anime and the lack of such a story could be the potential cause for no sequel like in the case of Bunny Girl Senpai.
Needless to say, this isn’t a major issue if the source material is still being published because as time would pass by, there would be new content coming out most of the time.
This aspect is in Re: Zero’s favour. The light novel is under publishing but it also has a lot of non-adapted volumes.
If we assume that the next season would require 7 volumes of the light novel based on the average, we can rest assured because the series has over 13 volumes that are yet to be adapted.
So even if the season adapts more than 7 volumes, let’s say 9 like Season 1, we would still have content to watch for the next season.
Yup, a moment of happiness. Overall, all of my Re: Zero lovers can rest assured that the next season of Re: Zero has more than enough source material to back it up!
No need to hurry. So now that we have an understanding of the source material of Re: Zero, it is time to look at the popularity of the series.

RE ZERO SEASON 3 PLOT

The third season will, as mentioned previously will, start by adapting the Stars that Engrave History Arc. Anastasia invites Emilia, Crusch, Priscilla, and Felt camps to attend a function at the Watergate City of Priestella.
The function turns into a brawl and goes south as the Witch Cult, and Sin Archbishop come crashing. To save the city, Subaru must gather all his allies and free the city of the Witch cult as they take on the Sin Archbishop.
Many substories will need resolving, mainly when will Rem wake up? Rem was on the way back to the Capital with Crusch but was attacked by the Sin Archbishops of Greed and Gluttony, Ley Batenkaitos.
Due to Gluttony’s ability to eat a being’s name and existence, Rem is in a coma-like state with all her memories and name erased from existence. Only Subaru can remember Rem with his ability, “Return by Death.”

With Rem out of the picture, Subaru and Emilia’s relationship should also be a central theme of the third season. Will Subaru end up with Emilia? We don’t expect this question to be resolved in the third season, but a fair bit of foreshadowing to the answer will most likely happen.

The first season of Re: Zero had a score of 8.27 followed by 8.43 for Season 2 Part 1 and finally 8.56 with Season 2 Part 2 making it a part of the Top 100 Anime On MAL.
This shows how every new season gave a boost in quality as well as maintained its audience.
Not to mention, the anime had fantastic reviews as well highlighting the distinct approach towards the Isekai genre and the unseen horror tone of the same.
Overall, we can sit comfortably and say that Re: Zero has fantastic ratings and reviews.
From fans to critics, everyone seems to have a liking for it.

Now let’s quickly talk about some aspects of Re: Zero that could decide the potential for another season.
First up is the ending.
Re: Zero Ending Explained
The ending of Re: Zero was focusing on Subaru freeing the sanctuary as well as everyone within the sanctuary.
Moreover, Emilia, Ram, Roswaal, and Garfiel have overcome their pasts and are looking forward to a new life.
The ending of Re: Zero had a somewhat conclusive ending but it wasn’t definite. So there’s a lot of chance for creators to use that ending for another season if they are planning one.
Which they are since producer Sho Tanaka has hinted at it. So overall, the ending of season 2 was good enough to let season 3 slide in without any issues.
Controversy Around Re: Zero
Controversy creates cash. But sometimes, it creates problems in the making of a sequel. Luckily for Re: Zero, that’s not the case.
There haven’t been any significant controversies revolving around Re: Zero. The only thing close to that was the «Emilia Vs Rem» best girl fight. But that’s just the fandom being the fandom. Nothing too extreme.
It’s just an exchange of opinions and it turned out to be favourable for creators because the demand for Rem figures spiked.
It’s a win-win in my eyes.
Everything We Know So Far About Re: Zero
Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu aka Re: ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- is a 50-episode TV anime that started airing back in 2016.
It is an anime adaptation of a light novel of the same name. The light novel was written by Nagatsuki Tappei and illustrated by Ootsuka Shinichirou.
The series was directed by Watanabe Masaharu and animated by White Fox. Nagatsuki Tappei and Ootsuka Shinichirou haven’t worked on any other manga/light novel yet but their proficiency in the narrative of Re: Zero is commendable in itself.
If we talk about director Watanabe Masaharu, he has been responsible for directing Granbelm and Wakaba*Girl.
He has also participated in the creation of anime like Naruto and Haruhi Suzumiya. If we are talking about the studio that animated Re: Zero, that being White Fox, these guys have made some amazing shows like Steins Gate, The Devil Is A Part-Timer, and Akame Ga Kill.
No wonder why these guys are so good at portraying psychological drama. The first season of the anime aired from April 4, 2016, to September 19, 2016.
The second season on the other hand aired from July 8, 2020, to September 30, 2020.
And finally, the second part of the second season aired from January 6, 2021, to March 24, 2021.
Anyway, coming back to the narrative of Re: Zero, it’s the story of a boy named Natsuki Subaru who gets teleported to a new world.
How does he get teleported? Well, Truck-kun was busy with some other character so Subaru got teleported using an eye blink.
That’s right! He was just buying some stuff in a convenience store and the moment he stepped out and blinked his eyes, BAM!
He is in another world that he has NEVER seen before. A completely new realm with a bunch of creatures that seem everything but familiar.
Subaru being the Otaku that he is understands his situation and starts to look forward to his life in this realm.
However, what lies true is his naivety for this world. Immediately after arriving, Subaru looks out for the stereotypes with the most important one being, finding the girl of his new world.
However, during this period he gets attacked by some delinquents. These delinquents are from the other world so don’t know Subaru and thus, he is in big trouble.
But right before he was about to get himself screwed a girl named Satella summons him out of nowhere and saves him.
Although she was on the lookout for something herself, she managed to help Subaru without breaking a sweat.
Now our protagonist understood where this was going. A cute white-haired girl just saved his life.
No wonder she is the one he was looking for. So now Subaru goes on to search for Satella and meet her so he could…… I know where this is going.
Either way, in his attempt to meet Satella, he ends up in a cottage where a super-powerful woman kills him.
Oh yeah, it’s as strange as it sounds. But things get even stranger when instead of ending up dead, Subaru ends up back at the place where he was standing after the eye blink.
So Subaru didn’t die? Or did he just come back in time? Or maybe, he had undone reality?
Such questions would summon up in your mind as Subaru searches for Satella again but this time, he wishes to save her from being murdered by that woman.
The story moves forward as we get to know the life of a man starting in another world from Zero.
So now that we have the general recap of Re: Zero, let’s take a look at the official announcements and release dates of Re: Zero Season 3.

Сказать, что я впечатлен — ничего не сказать. Ни в коем случае не стоит воспринимать ReZero как очередную дешевую историю про задрота в параллельной вселенной — это не так. Уже сейчас, после трансляции половины сериала (всего запланировано двадцать пять серий), становится очевидно, что ReZero имеет огромный потенциал, чтобы стать одним из лучших аниме про перемещения в фэнтезийные вселенные. Каждый отдельный компонент находится на высоком уровне: прекрасная рисовка, великолепное музыкальное сопровождение, нешаблонные персонажи, и в особенности — глубокий, логичный и непредсказуемый сюжет с затягивающей атмосферой. На данный момент могу смело сказать, что ReZero является лучшим аниме весны 2016 года, и вполне вероятно, что окажется одним из лучших аниме года. Все зависит от второй части сериала. Рекомендую к просмотру — аниме недооценено и заслуживает куда большей популярности.
UpdateRe:Zero никого не оставляет равнодушным, и этот факт уже говорит о многом. Посмотреть данное аниме следует хотя бы для того, чтобы составить о нем собственное объективное мнение. Вы практически не встретите нейтральных отзывов. Кто-то восхваляет его, кто-то раскритиковывает в пух и прах. И, в отличие от большинства подобных случаев, на этот раз я займу восторженную сторону. Да, Re:Zero не лишено недостатков. Отрицать это было бы глупо. Глупо закрывать глаза на неадекватные изменения характера главного героя и сюжетные пробелы. Но так же глупо будет отрицать и его достоинства, коих намного больше. Re:Zero — это не аниме, которое ты посмотришь один раз и через пару дней забудешь про его существование. Такой глубокий и непредсказуемый сюжет, такие яркие персонажи и переживаемые эмоции просто так не забываются. Вы действительно будете хотеть продолжения истории, и рука сама будет тянуться к кнопке Play. Это дорогого стоит.
