События этого захватывающего фантастико–приключенческого сериала происходят в недалёком будущем. К середине 21 века человечество окончательно освоит океан и колонизирует его. Даже в самых глубоких океанских впадинах появятся шахты, заводы и предприятия. Для поддержания правопорядка в подводном пространстве будет создана Организация Объединенных Океанов Земли и экспериментальная боевая субмарина «SeaQuest». На её борту находятся ученые, занимающиеся изучением океанского дна и подводных вулканов, а также военные, которые могут оказать помощь в экстремальных ситуациях и дать отпор многочисленным врагам, мечтающим уничтожить «SeaQuest».
